characteristic of the LaPerm is its wavy, almost curly, silky hair, which can
be short or medium-long. Even its ears are furnished with a dense, curly coat
and it has beautiful moustaches that are also curly. The LaPerm

neck.
The LaPerm
belongs to the so-called "semi-foreign" cats. According to the
definition of the Official Book of Feline Origins (LOOF), the LaPerm has the
following characteristics: "a rectangular body, a solid but not
excessively strong bone structure, a loose but strong neck, a medium tail, an
intermediate and balanced head and round or oval paws". At birth, the
LaPerm has little hair, except for a few on the head, or a smooth coat. It is
while growing up, around the age of four months, that its coat begins to wavy.

The LaPerm
is a recent cat resulting from a natural genetic mutation. All the cats of this
breed are descended from a cat named Curly, born hairless and from a litter of
ordinary cats. The latter was discovered on a farm in the United States in
1982, more precisely in Oregon. The LaPerm was recognized as a breed in its own
right in 1996.
