The Chausie is a perfect mix between a domestic cat and a wildcat. He looks like a feline with his fine and muscular body but has a soft and familiar character. He is very attached to his owner and requires a lot of attention.

Description and characteristics of the Chausie

The Chausie has everything of the feline morphologically. It is elegant and proud. Characteristics that he takes from one of his ancestors, who was a wild cat. It is a big powerful cat with a coat either black or brown "ticked", that is to say with at least three bands of different colors on each hair whose end is dark. Another color is also accepted for the breed standard: the black silver tabby, a combination of all black hairs, black hairs with the silver tip and black hairs with one or two bands of silver ticking.

The Chausie's head is triangular in shape with well-marked cheekbones, a rounded forehead, large rounded ears with feathering at the tip. Its eyes are oval, almost flattened.


Origin of Chausie

The Chausie is a recent cat since it appeared in the 1970s in the United States. It is one of the new breeds. This cat is a cross between the Abyssinian and a wild cat from Egypt and Southeast Asia, called the Felis chaus.

Because of its origins, the Chausie has the character of a domestic cat. He likes to play; he is very attached to his master, even exclusive; he cannot stand solitude and is very affectionate.  If he can live in an apartment, the Chausie, because of its wild origins, must be able to exercise, run and climb trees or walls. He needs space.

From a maintenance point of view, the Chausie does not require special care. Brushing once a week is enough to help its hair keep its shine.

The Chausie is a delicate cat when it comes to food. Some individuals do not tolerate gluten and industrial food. It is preferable to give him homemade food made of fresh meat and vegetables.
