Description
and characteristics of the Skookum
The Skookum
is a very small cat with a muscular body and very short legs, the main characteristic
of this breed. Its hind legs are also a little longer than its front legs. In
addition to its short legs and its small size, this cat has a recognizable and
original coat since its hair is short and curly all over its body, up to its
tail. They form kind of waves of varying intensity on his body and give an
impression of lightness to his coat.
The
Skookum's head is well rounded with a relatively flat skull, rounded cheekbones
and very expressive bright eyes. Its muzzle is also round, as are its
medium-sized ears. Some Skookums with medium-long hair have small feathering at
the tips of their ears and a ruff.
Origin
of the Skookum
The Skookum
appeared recently in the United States in the 1990s. It is a cross between
Munchkin and Laperm, from which it takes its main characteristics (small size
and curly hair). Crossing in which also participated Australians, New
Zealanders and Europeans. This race, even if it is recognized in particular by
the American association The International Cat Association (TICA), is not yet
admitted as official race. The Skookum is not very widespread in France.
Character
and behavior of the Skookum - Who is it for?
Although
the Skookum is an indoor cat, it is known to be very playful and active. It is
also affectionate and has a very good character. Despite its small size, it is
also an agile and athletic cat, very good at jumping and climbing. The Skookum
especially appreciates the presence of children with whom he can play.
It is a
very sociable cat and accepts well the presence of other animals in its family.
It is suitable for anyone looking for a friendly and cheerful companion.
The Skookum
has the advantage of not shedding hair. Its maintenance is therefore easier. A
regular brushing, once a week, is sufficient. Brushing that this cat, eager for
caresses, appreciates very much.
The
Skookum's diet
The Skookum
does not require any special feeding. Like all cats, and in order to keep it in
good health, it is advised to give it a balanced and good quality diet, adapted
to its age, its state of health and its physical exercise.
