Description
and characteristics of Seychellois
The
Seychellois is very similar to the Siamese from which it descends. It is a
medium sized cat with the same morphology: a delicate musculature and a fine
bone structure in particular. Its head is triangular in shape and it has shiny
blue almond-shaped eyes placed slightly obliquely, as well as large and wide
ears.
The hair of
the Seychellois is either short (Seychellois Shorthair) or medium-long
(Seychellois Longhair). It is in all cases soft and silky and has the
particularity, like the Siamese, to be "colorpoint" (light colored
coat with darker tips) or bicolor. Thus its head, its legs and its tail are
strewn with spots of darker color than the rest of its body. Because of its
appearance, the Seychellois is often confused with the Siamese.
There are
three types of coat in the Seychellois: one called an all-white
"seventh" with colored spots on the head, tail, legs and body; an
"eighth", white with a different color on the head, tail and legs and
a white "ninth" with colors on the tail and head only.
Origin
of Seychellois
The
Seychellois appeared recently, in the 1980s, at the initiative of an English
breeder who wanted to recreate cats that lived in the Seychelles and that she
had known through the stories of explorers. To this end, she crossed
two-colored Persians with Siamese and Orientals. The Seychellois has been
recognized by the International Cat Federation since 2005 as a category of
Siamese, Oriental and Balinese breeds, but its breeding is quite rare. The
Seychellois is mainly found in the United Kingdom and in Europe in general.
Character
and behaviour of the Seychellois - Who is it for?
The
Seychellois has about the same character as the Siamese. It is an energetic
cat, but also knows how to be calm. With his owners, he is very affectionate
and demonstrative. He is happy as soon as he is surrounded by people. He needs
an available family. It is an intelligent cat that has the particularity of
expressing itself through its meows, softer than those of the Siamese. Very
playful, the Seychellois is perfectly adapted to families with children.
How to take
care of your Seychellois: its needs
The
maintenance of the Seychellois does not pose any particular problems. One
brushing a week is enough to preserve the beauty of its coat, a little more
regularly for the Seychellois semi-longhair.
The
Seychellois has more or less the same character as the Siamese.
The diet
of the Seychellois
The diet of
the Seychellois is identical to that of the Siamese. Whether it is natural or
industrial, it must be adapted to the cat's age, state of health and physical
exercise. It is also important to watch the quantities because the Seychellois
is prone to overweight.
The
health of the Seychellois
Given its
relatively recent appearance, it is not yet possible to know if the Seychellois
can develop diseases specific to its breed.
