Description
and characteristics of the Serengeti
The
Serengeti looks a lot like the Serval, a medium sized African cat, whose short
coat is covered with dots or spots in the manner of the leopard. The Serengeti
is mainly recognizable by its soft and silky coat of beige, gray, or sometimes
silver, spotted with black or dark brown, called "spotted tabby"
coat, which gives it its wild look.
The
silhouette of the Serengeti is long, with a straight back, and it has high and
solid legs that end in round paws. Its body is muscular. Its head is triangular
in shape and small in relation to its body. The nose of the Serengeti is rather
wide and its muzzle is fine. Its brilliant eyes, gold to copper in color, are
round, large and set apart from each other. Some of these cats may have green
eyes. The ears of the Serengeti are large, erect on its head and rounded at the
tip.
The
Serengeti has a fairly thick tail, but not very long in relation to its body,
which, like the rest of its coat, is covered with dark, ring-shaped spots, and
ends in a completely black tip.
Origin
of the Serengeti
The
Serengeti is a recent breed, created in the mid-1990s in the United States, and
more precisely in California, with the aim of obtaining a domestic cat inspired
by the Serval, an African feline. It is a cross between a Bengal and an
Oriental. The Serengeti is recognized at the international level as a
"preliminary" breed, notably by The international cat association
(TICA), since 2001. It is a breed always in the course of development in its country
of origin and in England in particular.
Character
and behavior of the Serengeti - Who is it for?
The
particularity of the Serengeti is to have a powerful voice with which it
communicates a lot. It is a docile and sociable cat, a characteristic that it
takes from its ancestor the Oriental. He appreciates the presence of humans and
other animals. The Serengeti is also affectionate. Shy at first sight, he gets
familiar with his family very quickly, to the point of becoming even a
"pot of glue" when he is in total confidence.
How to take
care of your Serengeti: its needs
Because of
its short-haired coat, the Serengeti does not require any particular
maintenance, except a regular brushing, once a week.
Serengeti's
diet
It is not
reported that Serengeti requires a specific diet. As for all cats, its food
must be of good quality, varied and especially adapted to its age, health and
physical condition.
The
health of the Serengeti
The
Serengeti being a recent cat, the little hindsight on his breed does not yet
allow to say if he is exposed to hereditary diseases. A priori, it is a robust
cat, with a solid health.
Price of
