The Safari
is a very rare cat. Only a few specimens exist throughout the world. With its
coat strewn with full black spots, similar to that of the leopard, and its
large size, this cat has everything of the feline. Despite its wild cat

Description
and characteristics of the Safari
The Safari
has all the characteristics of a feline and in particular a beautiful coat with
soft and shiny short hair that reminds one of a leopard, that is to say
speckled with full black spots, of the "spotted tabby" type. Then, it
is a cat of big size.
Origin
of the Safari
The Safari
is originally from the United States. Appeared in the 1970s, it is a cross
between the Geoffroy, a South American cat, and a domestic cat. These crosses
began in the context of research against leukemia conducted by the University
of Washington.
This cat is
very rare because very difficult to breed due to genetic problems caused by the
different number of chromosomes of the Geoffroy and the cats he was crossed
with to give birth to the Safari. The low fertility of the males is also at
fault. There are reportedly only 70 specimens in the world. This breed is not
yet officially recognized notably by the Official Book of Feline Origins
(LOOF). There is thus no standard determined for the Safari. Only the TICA
association (The International cat association) has approved the Safari until
now.
Character
and behavior of the Safari - Who is it for?
Given its
origins, the Safari has all the characteristics of a wildcat. It has a strong
personality. However, it actually has a very pleasant, easy-going temperament.
It is also a very affectionate cat that appreciates human presence, especially
children. Intelligent, the Safari is also mischievous.
Even if the
Safari is well adapted to life in an apartment, it is a cat that has a great
need to exercise itself.
How to take
care of its Safari: its needs
The Safari
dress does not require any special care. A brushing once a week is enough to
preserve its beauty and its wild aspect.
The
Safari's diet
The
Safari's diet does not seem to pose any particular problems. As for all cats,
it must be of good quality and adapted to his age, his state of health and the
physical exercise he practices.
The
health of the Safari
Given its
rarity, little is known about the health of the Safari and in particular
whether or not it is predisposed to genetic diseases specific to its breed.
